Baner has been the most happening place when it comes to the food scenes of Pune. A new entry to this is ‘Cabaret‘. The place intends to be a one stop destination for all your eat out occasions. The place as described is an cafe, bar and restaurant. The places has the target audience of college students, corporate meetings and the work from cafe people. The place has superior interior much like Cafe Peterdonuts. Oh, did I forget to mention it is from the owners of Cafe Peterdonuts?
If you are a regular loyal customer of Cafe Peterdonuts, I’m sure the ambiance will look pretty similar. The red color walls and door are a glimpse of the lavish spread of delicacies to be served here. I was invited for the food tasting here with a set menu for me. Let’s explore the food out here!
The welcome drink for the tasting, Mojito was ideal. Nice and almost on point with it. Simple yet beautiful presentation.
Chicken Bulgogi: Bulgogi is style of meat preparation in South Korea. Over there it’s mostly thin , marinated slices of beef or pork, grilled on a barbecue or on a stove-top griddle. The bulgogi chicken inside this dish was superb. It had a nice tingling sweetness to it with nice blend of the spices over it. However with that being said, the overall dish is a messy one. It was too difficult to have it with spoon fork or even hands. The red sauce like slimmy paste had a not so good after taste.
Spicy Sambal Chicken: A very simple dish which go well with a glass of beer along. This is a typical Indo-Chinese appetizer with a lot of spring onion, bell pepper. Nice succulent chicken chunks tossed in the hot sauce or paste typically made from a mixture of a variety of chili peppers with secondary ingredients such as shrimp paste, fish sauce, garlic, ginger, shallot, scallion, palm sugar, lime juice, and rice vinegar or other vinegar.
Mix Veg Tandoori: The place describes the dish as mixed exotic veggies marinated in red tangy sauce. The presentation of the dish was too average and not at all appealing to the eyes. The taste of each of the vegetable here was completely bland and lacked flavor. The red tangy sauce did a wonderful job of giving the entire dish a dark red color, wish it could have brought some real tandoori flavors to it. The only item in it, which was the pineapple tasted superb and was delightful.
Cream and Jack Cheese Chicken: A tandoori cheese chicken item given fancy name of cream and jack cheese chicken. Jack Cheese is a type of cheese made using cow’s milk. This item was tasty, cooked to perfection and had a nice after taste which makes you crave for the next bite. It had a little sour taste of the cheese but very well balanced with the nice creamy texture of the marination.
Paneer Butter Masala Spaghetti: A fusion dish combining Indian favorite Paneer creamy rich butter masala with the smooth Spaghetti. The Paneer Butter masala was one of the best I’ve ever had in my life. The spaghetti was on point. The combination however did not blend quite well. If in future you see a separate Paneer butter masala, do go for it!
Mac N Cheese Chicken Steak: The droolworthy mac n cheese done right, served alongside a chicken steak was a pretty sight on the table. The plate was super warm to the limit that we needed tissue paper for moving the dish around. The mac n cheese were good and were cooked to perfection. The steak was super thin, super crispy but at the same time had nice seasoning done which made it superior in taste aspect.
Gulab Jamun Tart: If looks can kill, this item will surely do the needful. Visually stunning tart did justice with the taste aspect too. Nice jamuns half cut topped on the tart were treat for the taste buds as it mixed with the vanilla and enhanced the overall experience. The pastry base was sweet and went well with the ice cream on the top.
Honey Noodles with Vanilla Ice cream: I’ve tried this dish at many places, but never found it good enough. Cabaret did justice to this beauty, served with ice cream on the top, the honey noodles were simply fantastic. The noodles were light and crispy. The honey ratio was accurately done. The drenched noodles were a delight after a wonderful tasting at Cabaret!
Conclusion: Cabaret is a wonderful option for Baner people. The place is for all types of dine out sessions from corporate lunch to meeting a friend, or celebrating a occasion with your family.
