Sushi is a Japanese specialty. Pune has a very big heart, and it welcomes not only worthy individuals but also some very interesting cuisines and their rich culture. One has to truly visit places for the true taste of each culture. Indian culture being so diverse, it’s really hard to get it under one rough. Pune has now been very comfortable and has accepted Italian cuisine. Italian cuisine is the most relished food in the entire world. A funny fact, the city of Milan,one of the biggest city of Italy has more number of Chinese restaurant than Italian. I feel in the next few years, Japanese and other Asian cuisine places will be on the rise!

I have recently watched the Guardians of the galaxy volume two and it was fantastic. When I stepped in their fantastic dim light but beautifully done ambiance, I felt transported to the Marvel Universe to be quite honest. It was a dreamy affair, you have to be here yourself to experience it. A very soothing and calm effect the ambiance had to give you. Located  on the 12th floor, you will actually be taken away from you daily identity to something which you only can dream of or aspire to be.

If the ambiance is of the next level, I was quiet sure the food too would replicate the same magic!

A lovely glass of white wine to start the meal simply felt great. The excitement to try a new cuisine can get you nervous and happy at the same time.

Before we could dive into the menu set for our tasting, we asked for quick tutorial on how to use the chopsticks! Needless to say we aced it(not really) (well we could lift it) (not really)( for few centimeter above the table)

Before we start with the sushi coco had to offer, here is a quick help for people who have not yet heard about them. Sushi is the Japanese preparation and serving of specially prepared vinegared rice combined with varied ingredients such as chiefly seafood (often uncooked), vegetables, and occasionally tropical fruits. Styles of sushi and its presentation vary widely, but the key ingredient in all cases is the sushi rice, also referred to as shar.

 Spiced Avocado Sushi Rolls: The sticky rice covering nice and tasty Spiced Avocado is something which I never expected would suite my palate, but it did. The taste is enticing enough to keep you captivated for a long time. Priced at Rs 300/-  this has to be one of the best sushi I’ve ever tasted.

Ebi Sushi Rolls:  After I had fallen in love with the first of the items itself, it was time for non-vegetarian variant of sushi!  The next item was having prawns as the star ingredient. This dish was second best prawn item I’ve tasted after Prawns in tempura sauce. The rice and the mildly spicy  tanuki prawns blended so well that one could easily complete a portion size of six easily.


Chicken Shiitake Dumplings

Chicken Shiitake Dumplings: The thin layer separating the chicken stuffing was so delicate and made with immense accuracy. Never ever have I come across such a beautiful delicacy! (I’ve had dumplings before)



Burmese style Khow Suey soup!

Burmese style Khow Suey soup: I’ve had a very soft corner for Khow Suey ever since I started my food journey. This place served me a very nice warm glass of Khow-Suey soup which is nothing short of love. This is how love looks in a lovely small glass. A must have if you have already aware how Khow-Suey dish taste like.



Crackling rice and chicken salad

Crackling rice and chicken salad: A very nice sider or a substitute to the regular salad I could say. Deep fried rice with mint and chicken cubes made a interesting combination. However I felt the overall after taste not so good to order one for myself.  Also the taste of vinegar was a bit excessive to my liking.

Crispy lotus stem: Honey Chilli is a tongue-tickling way to start your dinner. Honey Chili sauce over some crispy lotus stem, sounds good, taste better! The thin sliced, as seen in the image above is a fantastic starter. If you have not yet tried these, go for them. You won’t be disappointed.

Tengra Roast Chicken: Indo-Chinese variant of the popular Chinese dish is something quite different and unique on the taste you can get here. Although I felt the roast chicken shouldn’t have been the first choice for this particular item, the taste is very nice and keeps you addicted to the onions and heavy Indo-Chinese typical taste.

Twice Cooked Pork Belly with rice: A very  tasty combo of the spices in which the pork belly was cooked along with rice which was cooked to perfection and gave a very nice aroma to the entire plate. Boneless pieces of fatty meat from the belly of a pig were used as the main item here.

Dynamite shrimps


Dynamite shrimps:  The name, the presentation was spot on. We were anticipating for something really which would blast like the name suggest. Sadly the deep fried shrimps were a bit of a disappointment as the covering lacked a nice flavor and also the shrimp marination was either very mild or so subtle that I would say it was completely missing. Really felt bad when the most visually stunning dish lets you down.

Tender coconut mousse-  A mouse is super soft item with air bubbles in order to give it a light and super amazing feeling in your mouth once you have it.   A mousse can be classified on the basis of it’s density: light, fluffy, creamy thick. The one we got here was creamy thick. The tender coconut flavor was overdone and for me it really do well. There were chunks of coconut in it, small yet they made their presence standout because the number of these small coconut chunks were too high!

Honey pannacotta- The Italian desert served in a Sushi Bar confounded me. However the taste did the talking and yes it really didn’t belong here. However the presentation has been a very strong point for their dessert items and this was not a exception to that.


Smoked chocolate mousse cake


Smoked chocolate mousse cake:  This was a saviour for us. Undoubtedly the best dessert item which was served us, the mousse cake and got everything right. It’s thickness, the flavor and smoky chocolaty blend did magic and brought a nice smile on our face! A must have desserts for me at Coco.
